Hey sweeties…
Today we have
new adventure which discovering the most famous SFX makeup in Hollywood and the
artists behind them:
The usage of
specific makeup for any character to make you get into the movie mood and to convince
the audience with certain thing let’s start our journey today with my fav film
series ever “Harry Potter”:
1.
The artist
behind it all was “Mark Coulier”, he’s a British makeup artist and prosthetic
makeup expert. He worked also in X-Men and The Mummy Returning and he won many
prizes like The Academy Awards and The BAFTA for the best makeup and hair for The
Iron Lady. He was responsible for anything like: Harry’s Gilly weed gills; they
took an hour and half to apply, Aunt Marge’s fat suit took 4 months to build
and Lord Voldemort’s makeup which took 2 hours and 3 people, it was applied 70
times throughout the entire series and 50 of them were in Harry Potter and The Deathly
Hallows part 1&2.

2. Our next stop is “Wonder” which was the makeup one of the success factors in this film to make you believe. “Arjen Tuiten” made it. The makeup took up to 90 minutes throughout several months and this makeup could take 3 hours but they had to compress the time. The young actor wore full silicone head, neck and face prosthetics to simulate the look of kids with Treacher Collins syndrome, who often try to hide their malformed ears.

The third
artist who impress us Oscar and Emmy winner “Joel Harlow” who worked in “Pirates
of The Caribbean”, he worked on many characters.

Bill
skarsgård in “It” film chapter 2 took from Sean Sasom and Shane Zander 4 hours
to apply and 30 minutes to remove and particularly they were the two artists applying
his prosthetics each day.

5. The Dark Knight “Joker’s makeup” was done by John Caglione worked with Conor O’Sullivan who won an Oscar for his makeup on Dick Tracy. They realized that the new version of the Joker wouldn’t be easy to be done because the new and uncomfortable terrain. “I always got the impression that it was self-inflicted,” said Caglione because he put his vision on it and tried hardly to make it looked different from the old version.

“Maleficent”
was done by the retired makeup artist “Rick Baker” and Angelina Jolie’s
personal makeup artist “Toni G” who conceptu
alized her look. MAC makeup products
were used in that look using Russian lipstick with lip gloss and to make the
cheek bones looks real and get perfect complexion so they used powder blush ana
a fix Sculpt & Shape Contour Palette, and Pro Longwear Concealer.

Hey Sweeties
1. Prepare your face before anything by using the suitable cleanser for your skin type, apply moisturizer then sunblock.
One of the
important steps in face preparations; the primer and I totally recommend e.l.f primer
in all its types.
2. Exfoliate and moisturize your lips to get good lipstick texture. Lip scrub should be used once a week max to not cause irritation.
3. To avoid powder eyeshadow fallout; start with the eye makeup first to get smooth and fresh makeup look and if you forget and start with the base so use loose powder.
4. To get smoky eye, use hashtag; Draw a slanted hashtag symbol on the outer third of your eyelid, then blend it out with the sponge or a brush. This will not only ensure that both eyes are the same, but also prevent you from getting a little too crazy with the eyeliner.
5. Revive mascara with fixing spray or saline solution; after using mascara for a while, you will find it dry so add some drops of saline solution to it to get it back into its smooth consistency.
6. Set lipstick with a tissue and powder; lay a tissue over your mouth, then dust translucent powder over the top to set the color from budging.
7. Mix your color with Vaseline; you can pick any color from your eyeshadow palette then mix it with Vaseline in a spoon and just swipe it onto your lips to get the color you want. Best makeup tip ever for me.
8 8. Use dots technique for face contouring; for some girls the contouring step is not easy so this technique could be applied so smooth.
9. Blot your oil with toilet tissue; I know it seems gross but they’re made from material could observe the oils from your face specially from T-zone without affecting your makeup.
10. Apply eyelashes glue with bobby pin; that avoids the mess of eyelashes glow with a freaking look so the bobby pin helps you in that.
11. Heating up eyelashes’ curler; with some girls the curler left lashes for short time so heating up it with the dryer and allow it to cool slightly so you don’t burn your eyelids that helps lashes to keep the curled shape.
12. SFX hack: some looks need eyebrows to be covered so use gentle glow then setting powder on then and start with the color you want.

Any element around us could be source of inspiration literally anything. Your makeup can be inspired by seasonal trends like: zodiac signs trend and 2020 trends because of corona year. There’s some sounds on TikTok become trend as the clown makeup looks.
Natural things are good inspired material like: animals, clouds and colors from nature.

In this blog, we’re gonna talk about
scar WAX and Fake blood in details; they’re over priced for beginners especially
here in Egypt because of the shipping tax, so I’ll give you recipe how to make
them in home with simple ingredients.
For the scar wax all you need are:
- * Tub
- * Plain
Flour (not sure if self-rising has a different effect but to be safe, plain
flour)
- * At least,
2 tablespoons
- * Petroleum Jelly/ Vaseline
Put the same quantity of both, if you put 2 spoons of Vaseline so you put 2 spoons of flour.
# Don’t forget the spatula to shape your scar in the perfect way you want.
For the fake blood; this is my fav
and the most realistic way to give your look realistic mood. At first, you’ll
find it dark but after a while the texture gets better when it dries to feel
that leave it on your skin at least an hour before shooting or going out in
Halloween.
- * 2 tablespoons of cornstrach
- * 4
teaspoons water
- * 1
teaspoon corn syrup
- * 1
tablespoons onion flake
- * 4
drops of red food coloring
Mix all together to get the most realistic
fake blood.
© Getting material is an easy thing but at first you will be lost, I’m talking about that because I felt it in my beginning, how can I start, where are the stores, are they online or offline a lot of questions were hitting my mind. I’m gonna make it easy on you telling you how to get your material and the best pages with the best prices.

© Eye contact is a bond in any makeup look to make it convenient. There’re many shapes and colors including: Black Wolf, Red Vampire, Banshee Cat-Eye, Angelic Yellow, Blue Vampire, Black Sclera, Rotting Eye, and White Zombie, in many local and international brands like: FX contact lenses.
Materials and how to use them.
* Brushes: they’re the most important thing out there. TAKECARE to get the best quality of brushes from good and well known brands to not to waist your products as much as you can; the next video will tell you more about brushes and the usage of each one.
* Wax and fake blood: Mehron is the best brand for SFX products, tell me in comments if you want to talk more about them.

Hii guyzzz, I’m Hla Moawad… I’m a self taught makeup artist especially in special effect makeup (SFX). I started this last year via TikTok, SFX is like an umbrella has many types and the most known type is Prosthetic makeup which is used in film industry as a powerful tool this tool could use to make up love the character who make you laugh or heat him/ her because they’re the villain for example: “wonder” where the makeup used to make people feel the drama and emotions in it and Maleficent; the power of makeup makes Angelina Jolie the villain character. You could use makeup to imitate a cartoon character like this video below that shows inspiration from QUEEN OF HEARTS in Alice in wonderland:
